Hi all

I am just finishing my second six week course of steroids and can feel the stiffness and pain coming back into my hands, knees and feet. I have about a week left on one prednisilone a day. I am absolutely dreading finishing them as they seem to be the only drug that really works for me. Is it possible to be on a permanent small dose of steroids? i have heard good things about them, but also bad things and my mother constantly says that they will damage my organs!!

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Louise

Hi Louise,
Yes you can stay on a very small dose of steroids but it isn't approved
of. If you can get off them you should be better in the long run. Your
Mother may well be right about affecting other organs but it is usually
higher doses. Hope this helps. Anne

Hi Louise

It's never a good idea to come off steroids quickly, so I hope you have been tapering the dose. Have a look at www.patient.co.uk/oral /steroids has lots of the info you need. It sounds as if you need your RA meds to be reassessed. Take care.
